Amsterdam, Dusk at the Harbor
M1231
About This Work
Indigo harbour water, gabled rooflines, and masts caught in the pause between last light and dark.
There's a deep stillness to this hour. The dock leads out across the water to a cluster of moored boats, their masts rising against the gabled silhouettes of the buildings. Deep indigo and soft violet bleed into the water, while a muted gold light still clings to the rooflines. Pinpricks of warmth are just beginning to wake in the windows. The buildings hold their patient lines, but the sky and its reflection melt together, soft, as if the air itself is full of moisture. The light comes from somewhere beyond the frame, low and diffuse, easing across the hulls and wet cobblestones. A held hush sits over the harbour, the kind that only arrives as day turns to night.
