Corinthian Landscape, Cypresses, Mountains at Sunset
M1749
About This Work
Corinthian dusk: dark cypresses mass in the foreground as amber fades to violet over the distant ridges.
The grouped cypresses anchor the foreground in deep umber and olive, rising as vertical accents that guide you across rolling hills toward soft mountain ridges beyond. Above, the sky breathes through amber, rose, and pale lavender, while shadowed slopes sink into violet and indigo. The trees are built from tight vertical strokes, giving them weight and presence, and the hills and sky are laid in with broader, smoother passes that blur into atmospheric haze. Light falls low from the right, gilding the western slopes and leaving the valleys cool. The sun rests just above the horizon—a quiet focal point rather than a spectacle. Twilight settles over the land, and time slows at the edge of the day.
