Cuenca Spain Landscape with Trees
MK227
About This Work
Sienna earth gives way to muted greens, and beyond them, the stone ridges of Cuenca recede into a pale, open sky.
There's a deep quiet to this land. It moves from the foreground scrub and sienna soil, across a wide band of muted greens, all the way to the softer hills. The trees stand as quiet verticals, their foliage built with thick, layered touches of paint that feel rough against the smooth sweep of the sky. You can almost feel the craggy outcrops in the broken brushwork. Light falls from high and to the side, sharpening the ridge lines and letting shadow pool in the crevices. A held stillness settles across the whole scene, the kind that belongs to noon in a country shaped by stone.
