Cuenca, Spain, View, Cliffs – Church

About This Work
Cuenca's bell tower crowns the cliff edge, its stone walls continuous with the limestone face dropping into the gorge below.
There's such a sense of permanence here, as though the city grew right from the rock. All those warm earth tones of the walls press into the cool grays of shadowed stone, rising together. Even the paint tells the story. It's laid on thick and rough for the cliffs, but a steadier hand finds the clean lines of the bell tower and its arched windows. A soft light drifts in from the left, catching the edges of the buildings while letting the other side rest in shadow. Everything in the distance softens. A long stillness settles over the rock and the rooftops, holding the quiet of the hour.
