Houses and Mountains
MK252
About This Work
Terracotta roofs step in staggered tiers toward a long slate ridge, under a high noon bleached soft by haze.
The stillness of the afternoon feels absolute. Look how the houses climb in simple tiers of cube and dome, leading right up to the mountain wall. The crisp whites and warm ochres of the walls stand against the soft slate and dusty blue of the ridge, with burnt sienna warming the roofs. See the little notes of cobalt hidden in the eaves? The light is high, but softened—not glaring. Edges are soft. Shadows rest, short and quiet. A held silence settles over the village, as if the afternoon has paused and chosen to stay.
