Kythnos, Simple Landscape on Plywood
MKP989
About This Work
Kythnos stripped to essentials: thin paint over bare plywood, ochre slopes, and a horizon kept deliberately low.
The whole landscape seems to hold its breath. The horizon is so low, letting the sky open up over everything as your eye drifts toward the distant hills. The colors are just the island itself—warm ochre and chalky earth against a pale slate sky. You can feel the wood grain breathing through the thin paint. See how the broad, flat strokes shape the slopes, just suggesting scrub and stone. The light is soft, without sharp shadows, so the land settles into these quiet planes of color. Time slows here, the silence of the empty hillside holding the afternoon in place.
