Langadia Houses in Rain
M616
About This Work
Rain has reached Langadia — terracotta dulled, the hillside drained to gray, each rooftop sealed beneath a low, wet sky.
The whole village seems to be holding its breath. The houses climb the hillside, their roofs and chimneys drawing you upward through the narrow spaces between them. The paint is thick on the stone walls, rough, like the rain-beaten ground. See how the greens in the foliage are muted, settling into the damp earth? Just a touch of ochre at a window frame, a hint of rust on a single tile. There are no real shadows in this diffuse light, so the wet surfaces only have a faint gleam. A quiet settles over the lanes, slow and patient, the kind that time slows for.
