Stemnitsa, General View, Church, Clouds
M2049
About This Work
Stemnitsa settles into the hillside, its bell tower rising just clear of the stone rooftops into dense, overcast sky.
Everything feels so permanent here, as if the village grew right out of the mountain. The pale stone houses rise together, their roofs leading toward the church at the heart of it all. Its bell tower just touches the hills. There's a conversation in the color, how the warm terracotta answers the cool slate moving through the clouds. The strokes of paint feel different, too. They’re measured and solid on the architecture—but the sky is just allowed to breathe. Sunlight catches the edges of stone, leaving the shadows soft. A quiet holds over the village, the kind that carries the weight of long afternoons in the mountains.
