Velina Sunset Mountains
MK315
About This Work
Velina's central peak rises dark against a burnt-orange sky, the sun gone but its light not yet spent.
Everything here feels vast and solitary. The earth in front is a soft rise of ochre and sienna, leading to hills that undulate in shadow until the mountains press against that burning sky. The warm reds and yellows of the light push against the cool blues and slate grays of the rock. All that light spreads from the hidden sun. It rims the clouds in gold, casting long shadows across the land. The sky feels so smooth, but the paint gives real weight to the stone. The farthest peaks dissolve into pale violet; the closer ones hold all their darkness. A quiet settles over the range, the kind that arrives only at the turn of the day.
