Village in the Mountains
About This Work
One cypress rises above the terraced rooftops, drawing the eye directly toward the high ridges beyond.
There's a particular quiet here, one held by the mountains themselves. The slant of the rooftops and that single cypress tree guide you upward toward the high ridges. The walls are a warm white and soft ochre against that deep blue sky. Look at the shadows tucked between the buildings—they’re almost cobalt. You can feel the texture in the brushwork. Broad strokes for the stone, with fine lines for the window frames. The paint is thickest right where the sun hits an edge. That light comes from high on the left, leaving those cool, violet shadows. And way in the distance, the peaks just soften into the air. A quiet settles over the village, the kind that holds an afternoon in place.
