Zagora Square Before the House Was Demolished
M1911
About This Work
Zagora Square, Pelion — stone houses and open ground recorded whole, one building on the edge of demolition.
A central house anchors the composition, framed by neighbouring structures and pathways that carry the eye into the middle distance. Ochre stone, sun-bleached white, soft blue shutters and dusty olive greens settle into a Mediterranean palette, with terracotta roofs answering the pale ground. The brushwork stays controlled across the architecture—thicker on lit walls where paint catches, smoother in the shaded recesses where glazes pool. Daylight falls from above and slightly to the side, modelling the building fronts without harshness and laying quiet shadows across the open ground. A few figures move unhurried within the space. Time rests at the edge of this square, just before it would be remembered differently.
