Corfu, Road in the Village of Bois

About This Work
A Corfiot lane draws the eye forward — cobalt shutters, sun-bleached plaster, and a pale archway waiting at the far end.
A deep quiet holds this place, doesn't it? The road seems to pull you forward, between low houses whose terracotta roofs lean toward that pale archway in the distance. I love the warm ochre of the walls against those cobalt shutters. The paint on the architecture feels solid, laid on in broad planes but with small ridges you can almost feel, like old plaster. Then it loosens, breathes, where leaves gather in the shade. Light falls so hard from one side, casting cool, violet-tinged shadows that stretch across the path and soften where they meet the plaster. Nothing moves on the lane. The air feels still, holding the village inside its long afternoon.
