Zagora Evening toward the Cypresses
M1677
About This Work
Zagora's cypresses rise dark against a violet and orange dusk, their vertical weight anchoring the last of the fading light.
The whole landscape is breathing in this last light. The deep green of the cypresses pulls everything upward, a dark vertical against the long, low sweep of the land. Those soft ochres and dusky violets just drift toward the cooler horizon. Even the paint feels different across the canvas—thin and fluid in the sky, but becoming thick where the branches gather their weight. The warmth just catches the edges of the roofs. A quiet settles over the village, slow and unhurried, the kind that holds the hour just before night.
