About This Work
Perama's harbor at afternoon: moored boats, a pier angled toward the low hill opposite, terracotta rooftops above.
There's a slowness to this light, a long afternoon settling in. Low houses with terracotta roofs step down toward the water, where small boats rest at their moorings. The line of a pier points toward that soft hill on the horizon. The colors are so clear—the deep blues of the sea against the warm earth of the buildings, with little flashes of green and red in the shutters. The brushwork feels open. Broad strokes for water and sky, but you can see the finer lines of masts. And look, where sunlight hits a wall, the paint is thick, catching the light. Shadows fall soft, pooling just beneath the hulls. Time slows right at the water's edge.
