Zagora, Plateia, Old House Before Demolition
M1536
About This Work
An old house anchors the center of Zagora's square, its cracked plaster and shuttered windows already marked for demolition.
A deep quiet settles over this place. The building holds the very center, its roofline and shuttered windows so steady and calm. A low wall and the pale stones of the square lead us right to it. The colors are gentle—sun-bleached white and warm terracotta meeting the deep umber of shadow, with just a pale wash of blue for the sky. You can almost feel the texture of the walls. See how the paint gets rougher where the plaster has cracked and peeled away from the wood? The light is coming in low from the side, stretching the shadows. The whole square feels emptied, waiting, as if the air itself remembers what is about to be lost.
