Zagora, Houses, Sunset—Tall

About This Work
Zagora at dusk: stone houses rise in tiers beneath a sky of gold and violet, the horizon dimming at the edges.
A deep quiet settles over the village. The whitewashed houses climb the steep hillside, their ochre walls catching rosy pinks and ambers where the sun touches them from somewhere off to the left. Shadows fall in muted violet and deep blue down the slopes. The sky moves in broad strokes, while finer lines find the edges of rooftops and doorways. Thick dabs of paint hold the last of the light, and smoother passages in the shadows give the twilight a slow inner glow. Highlights glint at roof edges, small and patient. The whole hillside holds its breath as the last light settles over the stones.
