Harbor at Sunset
M788
About This Work
Masts stand vertical against an amber sky, their lines carried down into water that glows orange from the last of the sun.
The whole harbor seems to be holding its breath in this light. The horizon rests high, giving so much space to the sea, while down below, the boats and docks just settle into the calm. Masts lean against the sky, their reflections pulling you down into deep water. That last warmth of the sun burns across the clouds before cooling into the slate and violet of the shadows. Just a little touch of cream catches on a wet edge. The strokes that carry the water feel so fluid, while the lines on the vessels themselves are more sure. A quiet rests over the harbor, the slow hush of a day folding in on itself.
