Leonidio, Dusk
M1356
About This Work
Leonidio's terracotta roofs catch the last of the evening gold, while lavender already claims the sky above.
There’s a quietness to how the village holds the hillside. The whitewashed houses are tucked in soft rows, their roofs tracing a line back toward a fading horizon. A few chimneys and a low steeple are the only things reaching up. The stonework holds its muted earth tones, while the sky just above it blends from dusky blue into a bruised orange, and cool shadow pools low against the rocks. The paint itself seems to breathe differently across the canvas—so smooth in the sky, but you can feel the quicker strokes on the rooftops and walls, thicker where a last edge of light rests. The fading sun is somewhere just out of sight, casting long shadows that gather the whole scene into a hush. Evening carries its own slow weight here, settling over the rooftops as the day lets go.
