Leros, at Carnagio
M2022
About This Work
At Carnagio, Leros, an empty quay runs between pale masonry and flat water, the harbor caught in a pause between tides.
The eye enters along the low buildings at the foreground, moves across moored boats and the shallow basin of water, then settles on the soft ridge of land at the horizon. Ochre and pale terracotta in the masonry sit against turquoise and cerulean in the sea, with chalky whites breaking the line where wall meets quay. The sky breathes in smooth, blended strokes, while thicker touches build the texture of stone and the small ripple of water. Light falls from above and slightly to the side, softening shadows under eaves and leaving the quay almost bleached. No figures move along the shore—the quiet that holds here belongs to a working harbor between tides, settled and unhurried.
