Skopelos Sunset from the Pier
MK1803
About This Work
Skopelos at the last gasp of gold — the pier reaches toward a sun already below the horizon, its warmth still trailing across the water.
The pier runs out from the foreground toward the horizon where the sun has just dropped below the sea. Moored boats and slim verticals break the long horizontals without crowding them. Golden yellow moves through coral pink into cooler lilac and slate blue, and the calm water echoes the same hues, slightly muted. Brushwork shifts with what it touches: smooth, blended passages carry the sky and sea, while thicker marks define the wooden planks and rigging. Backlight from the vanished sun casts long, soft shadows along the boards and catches faint glints on the ripples. A quiet settles over everything, slow and unhurried—the kind of hour that asks nothing of you.
