Madrid Garden

About This Work
Cool blue gathers under Madrid's flowering shrubs, and the ochre path cuts straight through toward the afternoon light.
All the warmth of the afternoon seems to settle in this place. The sun-bleached stone and terracotta just drink it in. And then you find these little pockets of cool blue tucked into the shadows, the deep bursts of crimson in the flowers. The path leads you from the sharp detail of the foreground, back toward the shade under that soft canopy. See how the paint itself changes? It’s laid on so thick in the sunlit spots, but it grows looser, softer, in the foliage behind. The light carves such clean lines across the stone. Even the shadows feel full of their own color. The garden holds its quiet, the city pressed somewhere far behind the leaves.
