Madrid, Prothesion, Good Friday
MK2205
About This Work
Hooded figures move through a Madrid street on Good Friday, candle flame picking gold thread from the near-black.
The procession moves along a narrow Madrid street, the paso rising near the center while hooded figures flank it in staggered rhythm, drawing you deeper into shadow and architecture beyond. Deep umber and near-black ground the scene, broken by warm flame, touches of crimson at the vestments, and pale ivory where candle wax and sculpted faces catch the light. Brushwork shifts as it works—smoother around sacred figures, looser and more broken across the surrounding crowd, so movement seems to gather at the edges. Sparse, directional light from the candles carves strong shadow and leaves the upper sky in quiet darkness. A held silence rests over the street, the kind that carries chant and slow footfall without breaking.
