Makrinitsa

About This Work
Stone paths climb through Makrinitsa, past terracotta rooftops and tall cypresses reaching into a pale afternoon sky.
A deep quiet settles over the village. You can follow it up the pale stone path, rising with the clustered houses toward those distant blue ridges. See the slender cypress trees? They stand against the horizontal lines of the roofs, giving the place its rhythm. The colors are so clear—sun-bleached walls and the deep earth of the roof tiles, with touches of olive green tucked between. Even the shadows feel soft, resting in lavender and slate against the stone. The paint itself feels so precise on the architecture, but the distant hills and trees just seem to soften into air. Time slows here, and the hillside holds its long afternoon in place.
