Segovia from the Cliff, Bell Tower Above, Crows
M1547
About This Work
From a cliff above Segovia, only the cathedral spire still holds the last light, while crows cross slowly over the rooftops below.
A stillness settles over the whole city. Your eye just drifts down from this cliff edge, over all those tightly packed roofs, following the long shadows toward the cathedral. Look at the warmth on the stone—all those ochres from the sun—and how the slate blues gather in the quiet places. The light is so low, it only catches the very top of that spire. The buildings are laid in with such care, but the sky and far hills just breathe. The crows are just quick, black marks against the glow. A quiet settles over the old stones, and the air carries that hush of an evening remembered, not lived.
