Zagora Houses, Climbing Plants in Foreground, Small Door
M1962
About This Work
A small door recedes into the stone of Zagora, its threshold nearly swallowed by vines.
There’s such a deep quiet to this place. The climbing vines seem to be the only things moving, their muted greens softening the geometry of the walls. Look how the buildings guide you inward, past warm ochre and crisp white, right to that little door. Even the shadows have color—see the cool lavender settling in? The paint itself feels like it knows the surfaces. It’s rougher on the stone, smooths out over the plaster, and then just breathes through the leaves. A steady southern light defines every edge, but so gently. Time slows here, and the village holds its afternoon hush.
