Hydra, Boat in Front of the Red House
M1985
About This Work
A lone boat rests on Hydra's harbour water, anchored in the eye by the single red house interrupting the pale run of the quay.
A small boat sits in the foreground water, drawing the eye toward the whitewashed houses clustered behind it. The architecture breathes simplified geometry—terracotta roofs and ochre patches grounding the brighter notes of white and deep blue. Brushwork shifts across the surface: flat and smooth on the walls, looser and more gestural where the sea carries faint ripples in broken touches. Shadows fall in cool violets rather than black, keeping the Mediterranean clarity intact. The light reads as midday, high and direct, sharpening every edge of stone and tile. It carries the slow heat of a Hydra afternoon, when the harbour settles into its own quiet.
