Makrinitsa, Farmhouse, Tree Without Sky
M1347
About This Work
A Makrinitsa farmhouse, stone walls lit by late afternoon sun, anchored beneath a tree that outgrows the canvas.
There's a quiet that settles over this hillside. The house feels so solid, its warm terracotta tiles and wooden shutters anchored to the earth. A great tree rises right out of the frame, sealing the scene in with a ceiling of leaves. Late afternoon light catches the walls, pulling out burnt sienna and soft ochre from the stone. The paint is thick here, you can almost feel the roughness. But see how the foliage around it just dissolves into gesture? The house stays crisp, while everything else breathes. The world feels held in this one small place, as if the afternoon itself has slowed to a pause.
