Kastraki Spring, Houses, Mountains with Slight Snow
M1977
About This Work
Stone houses press close beneath Kastraki's limestone spires, a trace of snow lingering on the distant peaks.
Stone houses gather at the base of the rock spires, their ochre walls and burnt sienna tiles meeting cooler greys above. The eye climbs along ridge lines and rooftops toward far mountains where icy blue and muted white settle at the peaks. Olive and sage touches scatter through the middle ground, suggesting fresh growth. Soft cerulean and pale lavender sky meets the summits in a quiet wash. Brushwork shifts with the terrain—smooth in shadowed crevices, stippled and dry across sunlit stone, the lightest paint reserved for snow. Diffused midday light spreads evenly, leaving few hard shadows. A patient quiet rests over the village, the kind that belongs to mountains in early spring.
