Skyros Houses

On Skyros, the houses climb in close tiers, their narrow gaps drawing cool shadow beneath a high midday sun.

There's such a deep quiet here, in the way the houses cluster and climb. The off-white surfaces warm with touches of ochre and terracotta, then cool into pale lavender in the narrow gaps between them. A strip of sky opens at the top, letting the dense forms breathe. The brushwork changes with the light—smooth and flat on the sunlit walls, but thicker where stone meets shade. Sunlight falls from high above, pooling cool shadow into the alleys. There are no people here. Just the quiet geometry of the place. A held quiet settles over the rooftops, as if the whole afternoon has paused.
