About This Work

A single smokestack angles across the pale sky, and beneath it the rust-red hull holds off-center above its own indigo shadow.

There's a deep quiet to this hour, holding everything in place. The boat just sits there, off-center, its dark hull and rust-red touches so solid against the soft shoreline drifting to the left. Your eye follows the long, slow lines of it all—the slate water, the boat's feathered reflection, and then up into that pale sky. Lean in. The boat itself is built with thick, sure touches of paint, but the water and air feel different, almost breathed onto the canvas. The light is fading from the upper right, and the shadows in the water are just beginning to deepen with indigo. Just that one diagonal from the smokestack lifts the eye upward. The whole evening rests at the edge of night.
