About This Work

A bell tower on Skyros holds the last rose of dusk while indigo shade climbs the hillside below.

Low stone walls and terraced pathways draw you toward it from the foreground, then open onto sea and sky. The church's white front carries soft hints of rose and lavender from the last light, while shadows fall in cool grays and indigo. Earth tones—sienna, sage green—run through the surrounding terrain, answered by muted blue in the distance. The brushwork knows the difference between surfaces: smooth, blended passages for sky and far water; thicker, more deliberate strokes for walls and rocky ground, dry scumbling for stone, loose marks for vegetation. Low western light rakes across the eastern wall and leaves the far side in deeper shade. Dusk settles slowly over the hill, and the silence of the island holds.
