Kythera, Houses with Castle in Background
M543
About This Work
Kythera's castle anchors the hilltop, its weathered stone holding ground while terracotta rooftops climb toward it in steady tiers.
A long afternoon stillness settles over this hill. The houses cluster together, their terracotta roofs creating a soft, stepping rhythm that climbs toward the old stone fortress. Look at the colors. The village breathes in chalky whites and warm earth, answering the cool, weathered grays of the castle walls. You can feel the texture in the paint itself—smooth on the plaster fronts, then rougher for the rock and ancient stone. The light comes in low from the side. It catches every edge, but the shadows it leaves behind are soft. Time itself feels slow here, holding the centuries so close.
