Nerantza Road, Red House
MK169
About This Work
A terracotta house anchors the bend of Nerantza Road, its sun-struck walls offering no shade at this hour.
There’s a deep quiet to this street, a stillness that belongs to the hottest part of the day. Your eye just follows the low stone wall right up to the house. Look at the color on its front—all warm ochre and burnt earth. It’s answered by the chalky white of the plaster next door, and the softest violet that sleeps in the shadows under the eaves. The paint feels thick there, on the house. Then it becomes drier, almost scratchy, in the olive leaves and across the road. Even the sky holds that warmth, with a touch of gold where the hills soften. A quiet midday heat settles over the lane, patient and unhurried.
