Paros: Street, Archway, Church
M1680
About This Work
A stone arch frames a Paros lane, and beyond it, a pale church dome holds the noon light.
This whole street feels held by the sun. Look how it draws you down the lane, right through the arch toward that quiet church at the far end. The white on the walls is so sharp, but it breathes with the warmth of the paving stones and that little touch of blue at a doorway. You can almost feel the texture change—the paint is smooth where the light hits, then rougher in the cool stone of the archway's shadow. It's a high sun. It cuts such a clean line between the bright, warm surfaces and the deep shade that rests inside the doorways. The whole street is empty. Time just slows here, settling into the patient darkness beneath the arch.
