Ruined House with Snow-Capped Mountains
M20
About This Work
A ruined house settles just off-center, its broken walls framing distant snow-capped peaks that rise with a quiet presence. Fragmented stone and debris form a path inward, while diagonal rooflines tilt toward the mountains above.
A balance between human decay and natural permanence unfolds in the palette. Ochres and grays ground the weathered ruin, while icy blues and clear whites shape the far-off summits. Late-afternoon light grazes the western stones, adding faint amber warmth to the winter chill. Diffused daylight casts long shadows across rubble textured with dry brushwork, a contrast to the smooth, blended snowfields holding the brightest illumination. With distance, atmospheric perspective softens the mountains into cooler, hazy tones. Careful work in the foreground gives way to a looser handling for the distant peaks, reinforcing the divide between what was built and what endures. The sky shifts from pale cerulean near the horizon to slate overhead. Stillness settles.
